Make it stand out

Pieces of a Man is a solo theatre show blending powerful emotional storytelling and comedy to explore intergenerational trauma, masculinity, and identity.

Centred on the story of David’s father, a child survivor of the Holocaust, the piece asks what we inherit from our parents, and whether we can ever truly break those patterns.

Combining humour with vulnerability, the show creates a space where audiences can both laugh and confront deeply personal themes. It is accompanied by a workshop led by David, “Exploring Parental Legacies”.

PIECES OF A MAN

Globetrotting Londoner David is having a midlife crisis. He longs to grow up, but his dad keeps getting in the way. And he’s been dead for 20 years.

David’s father Marcello was a Libyan-Italian Jew who survived the Nazi concentration camps as a child. Larger-than-life, he lived through business success and failure, casinos and shady deals, an unexplained bomb, and a terrifying accident – hauling his loved ones along on his wild rollercoaster of life.

In Pieces of a Man, David brings us on his journey to make peace with his father. Hilarious and moving, this universal story shows how we can approach the complex legacies of our parents with creativity and joy.

About the Artist

Born in London, David Labi was a dedicated youth activist, learning as a teenager how to deliver immersive experiences for thousands. He studied English Literature at Cambridge University, and in his mid-20s left the UK to live in Buenos Aires, Tokyo, Berlin, and now Brussels. His lifelong red thread has been STORYTELLING.

David has edited top city magazines and published guides and literary translations. He’s been a TV news scriptwriter, and created globally broadcast documentary, as well as shorts and experimental film. And as a brand copywriter he’s written taglines, concepts, and copy for leading global brands.

In 2017 he founded ethical storytelling agency Good Point, which he continues to run from Brussels. His clients include WWF, British Council, Oxfam, Greenpeace, and more. For UNHCR he recently wrote and produced a graphic novel about refugees now distributed in schools worldwide.

David took to the stage as a comic performer in 2021, as a way to process the complex legacy of his late father. He has shown Pieces of a Man all over Europe and continues to tour – get in touch to book the show. David is currently developing his next piece, also about fatherhood.
